AEGEE-Europe is deeply concerned by the attempt to further restrict the grounds for legal abortion in Poland.
The Polish Parliament is debating a draft bill that would limit the already restricted grounds on which women can access a legal abortion by banning abortion in situations where there is a severe foetal anomaly. Because of the already restrictive nature of the law and a profoundly stigmatizing environment, it is close to impossible for women to access safe abortion care. This proposal, by de facto prohibiting women from accessing safe and legal abortion, risks causing serious damage to women’s lives, violating a number of human rights obligations.
These repeated attacks on women’s reproductive rights and health can no longer be tolerated.
AEGEE-Europe supports the joint statement co-signed by over 200 organisations to urge Members of the Parliament to reject the proposal: bit.ly/2FUAxpp
Mass protests in Poland already led to the collapse of the previous attempt to restrict abortion in 2016. Once again, Polish women need our support.
